18 Things Your Feet Say About Your Health

An article on Yahoo! caught my eye this evening. Hey, it’s about feet. Why wouldn’t I be interested? The tagline was promising:

Want to make a simple, ten-second check on the state of your health? Sneak a peek at your feet.

“You can detect everything from diabetes to nutritional deficiencies just by examining the feet,” says Jane Andersen, DPM, president of the American Association of Women Podiatrists and a spokeswoman for the American Podiatric Medical Association.

It got me excited actually because you can get a quick check of your health with Chinese Reflexology too. So, I eagerly read the article. Unfortunately, reflexology wasn’t mentioned, but it did talk about gout being caused by uric acid crystals. And uric acid crystals happen to be physical representations of energy blocks in your feet.

You can actually feel them with a reflexology stick. They feel like tiny little grains of sand under the skin. Sometimes they make a loud crunchy noise when they’re massaged too. Yup, and they hurt too.

All in all, there were some interesting tidbits from a Western medicine perspective. If you’re curious to learn more about your feet, you can read the article here.

    Dear Holly Madam,
I 59 years old man and very much interested in natural healing rather than depending on allopathic ones, except for emergencies. I have doing on me acupressure treatment since one year. Currently, my problems are :
    1) Vertigo : The spinning feeling starts only after lying down and while changing sides, left or right. This is there since 2-3 years. Feel better with antihistamine medicines. Currently, I am taking Homoeopathic medicine. Slight feeling OK.

    2) Slightly enlarged Prostate: Not much trouble-giving. Only weak passing of urine and excess pressure required towards end. Currently taking Homoeo medicines, but not feeling better.

    3) High Blood Pressure: This is since last 2 years only. BP is not very high, but above the border line. Taking Allopathic tablet once a day.

Can you kindly advise me the proper Reflexology points for the above ailments. I shall be highly obliged.
    Thank you very much.

      Hello Murali,

Thank you for your comments and questions. Chinese Reflexology helps your body to balance itself energetically so that physical healing may occur. There are many factors that would contribute to the conditions you’ve described, but rather than try to figure it out from your mind, may I suggest you let your feet do the talking? If you were to avail yourself of my free Chinese Reflexology foot chart (in the menu bar), you’ll find many points that are beneficial for balancing the energy meridians related to many of the organs in your body. Feel through your feet to detect sensitive points and these would be the ones that reflect the energy imbalances in your body. By massaging these points, you will help to clear energy blocks to support your body in its natural healing process.

While the most effective method in Chinese Reflexology is to use a reflexology stick, I don’t advise this unless you are properly instructed to do so. However, there is much benefit to massaging with your fingers, knuckles and thumbs too. Just go lightly at first, see how you feel and don’t overdo it. As well, if you are interested in learning more, I am in the process of channelling an ebook on Healing the Body, Mind, Heart and Spirit with Chinese Reflexology. I expect to have it completed in January 2013.

Wishing you brilliant health and vitality for the upcoming year.

      Holly

        Dear Holly Madam,

Many many thanks for your reply. Only today, I just happened to see your reply to my query since I was not aware how you would be replying to our queries. Past more than 2 years, I am self-practising Acupressure with wooden stick on hands only and I am used to its use. After I started your blogs on Traditional Chinese Reflexology, I am practising on Foot as per your teachings.
        After feeling through the foot with the wooden stick, I found pains at some points and the point numbers as per your Foot Reflexology Chart are : LEFT FOOT = 13, 17, 18, 20, 21, 22, 23, 24, 25. RIGHT FOOT=13,18, 22, 23, 24, 25 20, 26.
When I press with the wooden stick, it pains very badly at some of the above points. But, I very diligently do every day.
But, I hardly find pain on the ear reflex points which are supposedly the real reasons for the Vertigo/dizziness, I understand.
Yes, I am intersted in your ebook on Healing the Body, Mind, Heart and Spirit with Chinese Reflexology.

        Thanks a lot.

          Hello Murali,

It’s not uncommon to have many sore points especially if you have not done reflexology on your feet before. The ear points in the charts are for the outer ear, which is probably why they are not that sensitive. Inner ear points are on the other side of the toes. It’s a single point where the smallest toe and the second-last toe intersect. Using a wooden stick is the most powerful way to practice this style of reflexology, but I caution people who do not have any training to not use a stick because it is so powerful. The greatest concern is to be massaging in the correct direction for your points, especially the large intestine (mirrors flow of food in the body). I wish you continued improvement in your health.

          Metta,
          Holly
